RESTRUCTURING NPFL CLUBS
Part 2
Establishment
of a football academy
An academy for
studies and football should be established by Akwa Ibom Football Club with the
aim of grooming youth players for the club, which could be for business (in
terms of transfer) or further promotion into the club’s first team. The name of
the academy could be called “Akwa Ibom Football Club Academy”, or for language
preferences it could also be named “Ufuknwad Football”, meaning school of
football. The club finances could be strengthen by the sale of players (mainly
youths) who do not break into the first team. Buy back and sell on clauses
should be inserted into their contracts before they are sold in case of future
occurrences. Also as an academy for studies, young less privilege children with
merit in football could be half sponsored by the club along with their academic
life. Should the player be a non residence of the state, he should be housed in
the academy housing unit.
Transfer
Policy
Despite the poor
transfer policy witnessed in the Nigeria Professional Football League, the club
on the other hand should make sure that the transfer of players to and fro
various clubs should be made transparent. Contracts of players should be
respected with avoidance of unnecessary dismissal of players, unless in cases
of sensitive reasons.
